Janne Haavisto & The Shubie Brothers

In May this year, Janne Haavisto & The Shubie Brothers released the album "You Are Here". At Helsinki Festival they performed it live in a true feast of instrumental ska mixed with surf rock and other sweet-sounding rhythms.

Call it Voodoo Afro-Funk

Call it voodoo afro-funk. Vaudou Game got the people out of their seats to dance to their catchy music. I'd say their lead singer was wrong at the beginning of their gig to incline that Finnish people can't dance!

Vaudou Game

Big compliments to the producers of Helsinki Festival inviting Vaudou Game for the first time ever to Finland. What a funky band. Without a doubt, a very stylish band dressed up to groove and to bringing back the sound of soul and funk. An extraordinary experience of seeing these guys live in action!

Authentic afro-funk

Vaudau Game is something special. I have seen many bands in my life, but this Group of Artists stands out with their authentic, and energetic afro-funk, soul and R&B style. Their songs are ultimately killer party dancefloor hits.

Peter Solo

Togolese Peter Solo is the frontman of the French sextet Vaudou Game. His appearance resembles a voodoo priest: bare-breasted, dressed in green trousers, and ordained with natural dyes, beads and embellishments. Peter played flawless chords on his guitar with a soulful voice sounding like James Brown.

Magnetised audience

Blick Bassy magnetised the audience with their humble and many-sided songs. Blick's distinctive voice mixing with his bluesy guitar play backed by cello and trombone made this to an extraordinary impressive concert.

Critically acclaimed Cameroonian musician Blick Bassy was the first afro artists of the evening at the Helsinki Festival. Bassy was accompanied by French cellist Clémont Petit and trombonist Fidel Fourneyron. Together the trio recorded Blick Bassy's latest album Akö.

MC DJ Bunuel

Master of ceremonies at the main stage of the Funky Elephant Festival was no other than DJ Bunuel (aka Måns Strömberg). In the mid-seventies, he started as DJ and has been making programs for numerous radio stations. Also, he had a TV show presenting the Finnish Top40. In the nineties, he was one of the pioneers using the CD player as an instrument and has appeared in bands projects such as The Rasmus, RinneRadio, Linda Lampenius, Cool Sheiks, Lenni-Kalle Taipale, Giant Robot and much more. At this image, he is to introduce the British Soul legend, Omar.
